This past fall I had the opportunity to attend ACTFL for the first time, thanks to a scholarship I was awarded from the ACC-Startalk program that I attended this past summer. One of the things we were asked to do as a condition of our award was to give a presentation in a webinar about ACTFL. I decided to include some of my general thoughts about attending ACTFL for the first time, and then a summary and review of my favorite talk from the conference. I spoke about Artful Thinking, which is a variant of Visible Thinking, which I have blogged about and have also presented about at FFLA. There is a wealth of information resources on the Edutopia website from the presenter, (Pat Klos, Bates Middle School in Annapolis, MD). You can find a wealth of information on Artful Thinking HERE. In my presentation, I also added in some of my thoughts about how I thought about implementing some of the ideas from the Artful Thinking talk into my own teaching. My PowerPoint presentation can be accessed HERE. Or as a .pdf file below:
There is a great list of Artful Thinking routines including examples and thinking maps for each routine. I have uploaded it below.
Artful Thinking and Arts Integration is a great way to engage students and encourage them to think critically. It definitely was the most valuable nugget I was able to pick up at ACTFL. I will definitely be using it in my classes, and I hope you are able to find some ideas for your classroom!
